EAM Design and Innovation
Improves Product and
Extends Warranties
for Tier 1 Commercial Automotive Supplier
Simple, effective & cost-efficient.
Technology that other
vendors couldn't supply was developed by EAM. Here's what we
did to provide the solution...
Tier 1 automotive suppliers are under constant pressure from
their high profile customers to improve their products and
extend their warranties. In this case, a manufacturer of
transmissions, brakes, and axles for commercial vehicles
needed to cut costs while extending the warranty on their
parts to 1,000,000 miles!
They contacted EAM to see if there was any way they could
improve the magnetic chip collector design they were already
using. They needed to come up with a more efficient and
longer lasting solution. Of course, they needed to
accomplish this while keeping costs to a minimum.
EAM design specialists visited the customer's plant in order
to analyze and improve the chip collection system the
customer was using. We worked with them to design and
implement new test criteria which could be used to determine
how well the new system was — or wasn't — working.
EAM redesigned the magnetic chip collection system,
reconfiguring the placement of the magnetic components. The
magnetic material itself was also changed to a Ceramic /
Hard Ferrite Grade 8 component, allowing for optimal
strength while withstanding the elevated temperatures
present in the axle, transmission and other drain plug
areas.
The results spoke for themselves — improved performance,
tremendous cost savings, and most importantly, the customer
was able to extend their warranty to the automotive
customers they serve!
